The history of Hotel Gfell, as it is called today, began in 1967 with Grandpa Toni, who, at the time, was running the house as a snack bar. In 1972 Andreas was born, followed by four other siblings. As Andreas grew up Gfell meadows, he quickly learned every aspect of running the business since he was to inherit it from his father in 1996. In 2000, he married Manuela and their son Julian was born. Three years later, the snack bar was renovated and re-opened as the "Schönblick" restaurant. Around that time, two more children were born.
We wanted to create a small, personal hotel surrounded by nature.
In November 2019, the Mair family began planning their dream of turning the restaurant and the 50-year-old barn into a hotel. In July 2020, Hotel Gfell opened its doors. Today, it is no longer just a meeting place for hikers and cyclists, but a retreat for tourists who have travelled from far and wide and for everyone who appreciates the luxury of nature and good food.
It was important to the Mair family, especially to their son Julian, to respect and integrate the entire hotel complex into the natural surroundings. They wanted to create connections between old and new, traditional and modern - and they definitely succeeded.
Today, the Gfell is a destination with simple, natural and timeless elements that have been refined with small details, such as old farmhouse furniture. Build into the magnificent natural landscape, it is the perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation.
